IS KETAMINE RIGHT FOR ME?
Research has shown that low dose intravenous Ketamine can be very helpful for people suffering with Treatment Resistant Depression. Treatment has been shown to be as much as 70% effective for those suffering with severe depression. In our clinic, you will be evaluated before and during the treatment to determine if the therapy is right for you.
WHAT’S EXPECTED DAY OF INFUSION TREATMENT?
You will be evaluated by our anesthesiologist. A small IV will be started. The infusion runs for about an hour. You will be in a quiet, dimly lit room, closely monitored and watched over by medical personnel. Please avoid eating six hours before your treatment. You can have liquids up until two hours before treatment.
WHAT WILL I FEEL DURING THE TREATMENT?
Patients differ, but the usual experience is a pleasant dream-like state. You will be awake but drowsy. Although you will be able to interact with people around you, it’s best to relax quietly. It is possible to feel mild nausea and dizziness. Some people experience very mild hallucinations. We can pretreat for some of these very mild side effects.
CAN I BECOME ADDICTED TO KETAMINE FROM THE TREATMENT?
You will not become addicted to the medication. Although Ketamine is a drug that can be abused, the doses that are administered are much lower than the doses that are abused recreationally.
HOW MANY INFUSIONS WILL I NEED?
Research has shown that during the first 2-3 weeks of treatment, 4-6 infusions are most therapeutic.
